Love seeing the whole plot! Here in Chicagoland I have challenges the opposite as you with crazy hot weather very early. So lots of bolting and daily watering. Some plants seem to just be stalled and waiting out the heat.

Crappiest year I've known this year Nigel but what can you do? Just got to grin and bare it.😂 Cheers Dan 🍻

Hi nigel, plots looking good as usual. But wanted to say my dwarf French beans are just the same as yours haven't moved for weeks. I'm in South Worcestershire.

it took me 3 attempys to get a cucumber to germinate. i changed my seed supplier and now have one called nimrod. i originally wanted a mini munch. tomatos are doing ok, but the first truss is highrt than i wanted. good job im sticking to 3 trusses. my bonus is down to the cooler weather of late. i sowed some lettuce a week ago and they germinated. unusual for this time fo tear, nigel.........................brian

I enjoyed the tour! We are having hot weather here! I’m very envious of your carrots 🥕, my germination rate has been horrendous, we had very variable weather after sowing which can affect germination. I think I will resow the bare patches this weekend. I’m very excited to have acquired some walking onion bulbils this season, I’m going to treat them like garlic and hopefully get large onions! I'm down south, and my plots are slow also, now the jet stream is north of UK , we should have more warmer days. Even my bees took a while to get going. Spring was awful.

Nigel I’m happy cos your peppers are similar to mine. Makes me feel like a proper gardener 🤪. I’ve got California wonder & corno di torro plus scotch bonnet & Red Devil. Mix of sweet peppers & reasonably hot Love them ALL

I enjoyed this! You look all set for the season! You grow such a huge variety of veggies! I’m sowing my carrots today, I gave the bed a jolly good tilling yesterday! In my climate, I sow carrots on June 1st and harvest on Labour Day, thus missing the lifecycle of the carrot rust fly! I don’t have to cover the carrots at all! I do get a big harvest all at once but I deal with it by pressure canning the crop, I have always loved tinned carrots😊! Klaus

Spring onions are weird. I saw many people talking about White Lisbon but they just didn't work for me. Last year I also tried Lilia for a bit of colour and they were a disaster too. This year I tried Tokyo Long and they've been fantastic. Also tried White Lisbon again and they again failed - I tried several different seed companies/sources and they just don't grow well at all for me. However I tried Lilia again and they seem to have worked this year. I also tried Ramrod which failed and Ishikura which has grown but very weakly. Wonder what the issue is with the variability. Seed quality must be a big factor I assume.

Many of my overwintered carrots were woodier than normal when I lifted them - a weird year all round LOL i have also had similar issues with those 3 varieties of spring onion. If, and I mean if, they germinate then less than 25% make it, and this is not old old seed! Seems like we always have the same issues 🙂
